Giles Swayne: Fourth Quartet The turning year [first performance]

Brahms: Clarinet Quintet in B minor

The Solstice Quartet is another success story which started in Cambridge, where all four members were award holders during their time here.

Since then they have quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented young quartets in the country and have just won the 2009 Chamber Ensemble award in the international Royal Overseas League competition.

They are joined in this concert by world famous clarinettist, David Campbell, for a performance of Brahms' Clarinet Quintet. David was described by the doyen of British clarinettists, the late Jack Brymer, as "the finest player of his generation".

Giles Swayne, whose fourth quartet is being premiered this evening, is composer-in-residence at Clare College, and a long-standing and popular teacher of composition in Cambridge as well as an internationally regarded composer.
