One of the world's leading counter-tenors, Michael Chance, returns to King's for a special concert with international oboist Nicholas Daniel and Fretwork. The programme is one they have given recently in Moscow (amongst other places), always in venues where there is a the sort of acoustic for which King's Chapel is famous.

The music is all British - from the 17th Century, by Purcell and Gibbons, right up to Sir John Tavener, one of the most celebrated of modern day composers. Included are the wonderful masterpieces of Orlando Gibbons' The Silver Swan and Purcell's Evening Hymn.

To complement the older music, comes a first performance, from Sally Beamish. Her new work Divan is a collection of settings of the Persian metaphysical poet Hafez, whose writings about animals has been an ongoing inspiration for Sally.

Sally writes: "This new Divan takes some of the previous settings and re-invents them for Michael Chance, with oboe and viols. The music reflects traditional classical Iranian setar playing, ornamentation and birdsong."
