Mirrors in Time

Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra
Max Baillie director, electric violin

Mirrors in Time invites the listener into a sound world where the Baroque and the Contemporary face one another. Max Baillie returns to direct CUCO for a third innovative performance, here exploring where old and new intertwine. This exciting and varied program includes favorites from the the Baroque repertoire, contemporary music inspired by that era, and the premiere of a specially-commissioned work Mirrors in Time, for orchestra and solo electric violin. By using Baroque music which delves into the obscure and sometimes highly dissonant, and contemporary music which is inspired by the Baroque, the performance plays on the links between them to create a magical, daring and virtuosic journey.

The music will be by Bach (as originally composer and in arrangements by Max Baillie and Harrison Birtwhistle) Arvo Pärt, Vivaldi (from The Four Seasons). It will also feature Mirrors in Time by Baillie, which will be given its first performance.

This is a concert with a difference, which we think will appeal to young and old alike. It will last just over the hour, and is suitable for families and anyone with the curiosity of an evolving mind.

Before the concert Max Baillie will demonstrate the electric violin (at 4.30pm)
