Mahler: Symphony no. 8

Mahler's Symphony of a Thousand from its opening clarion call to the spirit of Creation makes a triumphant end to the festival.

So called because so many performers are needed, the work is a relative rarity. This performance will feature hundreds, but perhaps not a thousand, of young student musicians and local young choral singers from Cambridgeshire schools.

CUMS is one of the oldest University music groups, with a very large orchestra and choir of 150, who will be joined by hundreds more singers, all conducted by Stephen Cleobury.
